We who are old in days  will not hesitate to ask our child within who is seven days old about the place of life he comes from,  and that person will live. We hover between life and death, being aware of, but experiencing neither in its fullness. They find themselves between the light of reality, and the darkness of ignorance. They are not sure of what they are, (a spiritual or a physical being). They are not sure who they are, (a child within, or a child of the shadow self). They are not sure where they came from, (the spiritual realm or the material realm). Because of this, each of us experiences a mind that is divided, and we are torn between the material way and true reality. In this state suffering is inevitable. The Program discussion Group :Does my culture determine who I am? Our experience certainly convinced us that culture and its corresponding mindsets can be quite limiting, at times even prohibiting movement into more integrative patterns of thought and action. Cultural conditioning can foster a kind of addiction; it becomes the equivalent of a drug that one must have to preserve a sense of personal identity and stability. It seems that many people are not able to define who they are without reference to culture.

The process of awakening in the ten stages, you have to “die before you die.” That’s the death of the “me” identity, and yet, the story of you will continue to play out. The “die before you die” idea isn’t very helpful because the thinking mind can’t make itself die, as if it’s possible to become pure awareness. Plus, it provides the mind with an unachievable goal, like waiting for the self to fall away, another meditational  idea that in my opinion is impossible. Rather than trying not to exist as a thinking mind with an identity or waiting for the self to magically fall away,  Ten Stage awakening is about the realisation that you’re not who you thought you were and you’re not whatever you think you are now. There’s more to you than a thinking mind with a “me” identity or a thinking mind with a “no-me” identity. To realise that is ten stage awakening.

The basis of our recovery at the program is understanding, not blame, guilt or shame. First, we need to understand that the abuser must have lived in ignorance and deprivation, without support, guidance or a wise teacher; the overwhelming power of ignorance drove him or her to do wrong. If the abused person can begin to understand just a little bit, then anger, shame and outrage can transform into droplets of compassion, and through Kindfulness practice, suffering can diminish. When understanding are present, suffering decreases.

Abuse during childhood creates within us a lost, fearful and frozen child. If we are unable to reach this child within then we may never recover our true selves. We prefer to dissociate from the sufferings of childhood, so we bury our memories and hide from them. We dissociate  from seeing deeply into the causes of our early suffering. Whenever the memories arise, however fleetingly, we think we cannot handle them and we deflect them into the deepest realms of our unconscious mind.We DISSOCIATE We are frightened of further suffering. As a result, the child hidden within may not be seen for a long time. Yet we have to find a way to reach our child within and make it into a safe reality. We have to regress the fear and address the dissociation, because that is the way to awakening into our true reality. The end will be like the beginning. The old man will become like a child. As you were, you will become. If you do not see through the present, you cannot know the end. If you know yourself, you know what you were like before and how you became what you were. It is called returning to the origin, to yourself.

We have come to realise that once the program is understood, it will result in a separation of our minds. The one who is not with the program is against  it. The one that does not fight for himself fights against himself. A grim fight would start between the powerful and their subjects, between man and woman, between parents and children, between leaders and followers, between clergy and believers, between the dissociated and the free. The reversal of all values would cause a total collapse of all structures of power, within families, churches and states. The biggest threat to our society is happy, independent, satisfied and free people. 

As a child within we are whole; by adapting to modern society our life has become split and full of contradictions. Between character and nature, between our inside and our outside, between our dissociated mask and our true face. What will you choose?

We have a problem and at the same time a rational explanation with the concept of the child within. A small child of 7 days is still open-minded, not yet saddled with the weight of culture. It does not play a role and is itself. It has neither fake needs nor property. It does not know past nor future, frights, problems nor anxieties. It lives in the present and is neither male nor female in behaviour. It does not have the schizoid character and spuriousness of an adult (the shadow self). Therefore, if you want to live a real life you must be as that child once again.

Dissociation Anonymous we live in a country where from childhood all children (within) are cut back, no man can form an idea of the seven day old child within as it should have been, if it could had turned freely into the being is was intended to be.  In this world where all childhood is polluted and trimmed in their freedom from childhood on because they have to learn to live in this society, no man can imagine a child within as we were intended to be. Adults has no idea of an independent, free child. At one time, the child within has been like that, free and only dependent on nature.The Ten Stages is a method of clawing back that freedom. Now, we live imprisoned in our convictions, traditions, believes and habits, which are dependent on others, culture and nature. By doing so, we have constructed an artificial, virtual cage of adulthood. The bars distort our sight of reality.
